Upcoming Classes

Thursday, August 1, 2013

Hi friends,
This blog sure has been quiet except for my hops with Paper Wings Productions.  It's summertime and we've been doing all kinds of things as a family.  My little girl starts Kindergarten this year so we have made her a big girl room, painted trim and furniture, getting her new bedding and also fixing my son's room up too.  We've also taken a couple of trips and even went camping this week (yes, in the Texas heat!).  We have also done two stamp and scrapbook shows with Paper Wings as well as add a new design team and had a new release of stamps.  So many fun new things going on!

I want to share a couple of my upcoming classes.  With some changes in my family's schedule, I might not be teaching as much so come and take a class with me while you can!

THIS WEEKEND I will be returning to Stamp Salado.

  Saturday      August 3      10:30 am
Instructor: Carrie Avery

Fee: $30.00
Supplies: craft mat, blending tool, adhesive (such as 3 in 1)

We will construct a mini book that has 7 Gypsies covers and metal rings.
The inside pages will be filled with printed paper, cardstock, canvas,
and more.  We will cover a wide range of mixed media techniques during
the construction and decorating process of making the book.

  Saturday        August  3        2:00 pm

Instructor: Carrie
Fee: $35.00
Supplies: bone folder, scissors, awl, and bookbinding needle (if you have one)

Back by popular demand!  If you didn't have the chance to take a
bookbinding class from Carrie last time she was here, now's your chance!
She is offering a variation of the Sewing Over Tapes book.
The Link Stitch is a slight variation and another exposed
spine stitch.  This pattern creates a lovely "x" shape pattern.  This book
will lay flat when open. .   Please bring a bone folder, scissors, awl,
bookbinding needle if you have one.  All other materials will be provided.

Classes at Stamp Antonio:
This month's bookbinding class is a special mixed media project that has several options you can choose from.  You can come to the Friday night Resin class and make the components to the book (flowers, pages, and covers), if you want the Resin portion of the book but can't come to class you can pay for the class and Carrie will make the pieces for you.  The third option is that you can come to the book class and not have any resin.

Friday August 16 from 6-8pm
Resin Class-
Intrigued by resin?  Come and join us for this fun class where you will learn several different applications for resin in your art.  If you are interested in taking the book class you will make the covers, flowers, and pages. If you do not want to take the bookbinding class, you will be making flowers, coating paper with resin, and filling a metal bezel frame.  Your projects will need to be left over night in order for the resin to set up.  All materials will be provided.

Saturday August 17 from 2-5pm
Bookbinding Saturday- Mermaid Mixed Media Book-
In the project this month, we will be doing a version of sewing over tapes with pages that are made from a variety of different mediums.  Pages will be made of paper, mica, fabric, and other fun materials.  Learn how to attach these pieces as pages within your book.

Saturday August 17 from 10:30-1:00
All About Gels & Mediums-
Another great workshop in our "All About" series.  Gel Mediums offer artists many ways to build texture. They range in consistency from pourable to moldable with varying degrees of sheen and transparency. They can be used to create glazes, extend paints and change finishes. Some gels incorporate pumice, glass or acrylic granules that impart unique reflective, rough or absorbent surface qualities.  We will make several small sampler pieces that will allow you to test and experiment with different gels and mediums including an image transfer technique.
